Friendship and Fashion

My all time favorite TV series, Sex and the City, is playing again on E!. It's been fantastic for short study breaks, including the one I took tonight from my pathology notes on the respiratory system and liver. I love this show because it is such a great story of friendship and fashion. I'm a Carrie. Who are you? :)

Below I'm sharing the love poem that Mr. Big quotes to Carrie in the movie. I love it.

Ever Thine, Ever Mine, Ever Ours

Though still in bed, my thoughts go out to you, my Immortal Beloved, now and then joyfully, then sadly, waiting to learn whether or not fate will hear us...

Yes, I am resolved to wander so long away from you until I can fly to your arms and say that I am really at home with you, and can send my soul enwrapped in you into the land of spirits...

No one else can ever possess my heart - never - never - Oh God, why must one be parted from one whom one so loves ... Your love makes me at once the happiest and the unhappiest of men...

My angel, I have just been told that the mailcoach goes every day - therefore I must close at once so that you may receive the letter at once...

Be calm - love me - today - yesterday - what tearful longings for you - you - you - my life - my all - farewell. Oh continue to love me - never misjudge the most faithful heart of your beloved.

Ever thine,

Ever mine,

Ever ours.

alis volat propriis

It's latin, and literally means "she flies on her own wings." I love this phrase. It embodies so much of who I am, hence, the name of this blog and the tattoo on my back.

Thanks Vishal for reminding me that I should really post an explanation. ;)

Medical School Humor

A very charming, smart, and funny classmate of mine also created a blog recently. I found this hilarious video on his blog. I just had to share it on mine, because it made me laugh so hard! He stole a photo from me... so I think it's ok if I steal a video from him. :)

Medical school humor. I'm sorry if you don't get it.

ShakeIt Lite

I have another new (and free!) iPhone app. It's called ShakeIt Lite, and it changes any photo on your phone into a Polariod-like photo. I was just playing around with some of my old favorite photos... I think they look cool. :)

How to be Lovely

She was the epitome of effortless beauty, class, and style. She was a brilliant actress and ballerina. She was a humanitarian, animal-lover, and mother. I adore Audrey Hepburn.

The Golden Globes

These are my favorite gowns of the night! I really like sleeves this year. :) Anne Hathaway takes the #1 spot for me. She looks gorgeous!

Good news for me... almost all the celebs have FAIR skin tonight! I didn't see one spray tan. Hm, maybe pale is making a come back. ;)

My Men-who-like-Dogs Theory

Okay, not that I know much about men... but here's a theory:

If you meet a man who has a dog it's pretty safe to say that he: is not selfish, likes to have fun and get dirty, is loyal, is protective, and is not afraid of commitment. All are incredibly good qualities I think!

What do you think? True?

Country Strong

I went to the movies last night with a girlfriend and saw Country Strong. It was really good! Let me list the reasons why I loved it:

1. There was an actor I've never noticed before who was sooo dreamy. Hello Garrett! ;)

2. The disease of addiction was accurately portrayed as just that, a disease! Having studied at the Betty Ford Center this summer, I really appreciated Gwenyth Paltrow's amazing interpretation and acting.

3. The country music was awesome! In fact I bought the CD as soon as I got home. I love the lyrics to Stronger (by Sara Evans), but honestly they are all REALLY good.

Great movie. Great CD. If you love good acting and country music, go see it!

Friendship Poem

My Best Friend
by Sheri Goodwin

I'm not sure when it happened
But I'm very glad it did
You came into my life when
I really needed a friend

The more I get to know you
The more I know myself
And this is why I'm thankful
For you are just yourself

You and I are different
And in many ways the same
Your good ear, compassionate heart
Will always find you fame

I promise to always be here
Forever and to the end
You are the true definition of
My Very Best Friend!

They say your really lucky if you have even a couple true friends... Well I am more than lucky!

I found this poem while browsing online tonight and wanted to share it.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I just finished a book given to me by my Grandma, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. It is without a doubt one of the best books I have ever read. I couldn't put it down! Honestly, I'm sitting here in shock and awe, practically speechless, and completely enthralled by the story of Lisbeth Salander. It is a brilliant murder mystery and a must read!

Happy New Year 2011!

Well, I don't know about you, but 2010 seemed to fly by to me! Looking back, it was a really good year filled with a lot of growth and lot of blessings. Let's see... I finished my first year of medical school and finally started to settle-in in Chicago, I got rid of the womanizing man in my life who I unfortunately fell in love with back in 2007, I got to meet my best friend's family in Colorado, I became part of the Arts of Life family, I made the most amazing girlfriends in my medical school class, I was blessed with an opportunity to be part of the Summer Institute for Medical Students at the world renowned Betty Ford Center in Palms Springs, CA and on the same trip I was able to visit my cousin, Lonnie, for the first time in Bakersfield, my little sister, Kelsey, graduated from high school and started college at IUPUI (woot!), I went through a ton of spiritual growth, and the list goes on and on. What a great year! I'm giving all my thanks to the Man upstairs!

My dear friend, Anh, challenged me earlier this week to write down on paper all the things I want to do or continue to do in 2011. I have to admit, I initially thought this was a silly, useless act for me. I've always been the kind of person who just knows what my goals for the near future are (and I don't make New Year's resolutions), so in my mind there was no need to write goals down. I did it anyway, mostly to appease him. :) I must say there was something very liberating and empowering about putting those things on paper. They're not huge, lofty goals, just realistic changes and continuances that I want to do this year. I'm going to share what I wrote down below, and I also want to challenge you to write down what you want to do this year. It actually feels really good!

2011--->
1. Study HARD for the boards!
2. Get healthier- more yoga and running, less cookies and french fries
3. Don't let boys distract you
4. Volunteer at CHC, the soup kitchen, and Arts of Life
5. Keep up your blog
6. Call your sisters and Lonnie more often
7. Take Abby to agility
8. Visit Steph in Nashville
9. Go to church
10. Treat yourself every now and then with good movies and books
11. Find a new apartment
12. Count your blessings every night
13. Explore and enjoy Chicago- Hubbard Dance Company, concerts, the beach, take the dogs to the park, museums, and more
14. Work hard on all your rotations and learn as much as you can
15. Be a good friend, daughter, sister, and mom to the doggies
16. Save as much money as you can and invest it in your future

Then, I wrote 1 Corinthians 13 on the bottom of the page. Faith, hope, and love are some good things He gave us. The greatest of these is love.

Thanks Anh for the challenge! :)
